Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Dak Prescott had surgery Sunday night, but he is likely to miss the rest of the season because of the injury he suffered in Sunday's game against the New York Giants. Prescott was injured after a quarterback draw up the middle in the third quarter.
Prescott ran for nine yards and was tackled by Giants Defensive Back Logan Ryan. After the tackle, Prescott grabbed his lower leg.
"Oh no, oh no. That does not look good," former Cowboys Quarterback Tony Romo said during the broadcast on CBS Sports.
Former Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett joined current Coach Mike McCarthy on the field to check on Prescott. Garrett, now the Giants' offensive coordinator, put his arm on McCarthy's back.
Running Back Ezekiel Elliott says he talked to the offensive line after Prescott's injury.
"I just told the group of guys it's going to all of us," he says. "We're all going to make a play to make sure we go and win this for 'Four' [Prescott's number]. That's what we did."
Prescott was in tears as he rode off the field on a cart. He raised his arm toward the fans.
The Cowboys came back and defeated the Giants 37-34
"I know we won, but it just sucks to lose Dak, our leader," Elliott says. "I was talking to the guys. It's going to take all of us to fill the void we're going to be missing from Four. We just need to go out there and play for him."
Sunday night, Prescott underwent surgery in Arlington for a compound fracture and dislocated ankle. He is likely to miss the rest of the season, with his recovery time estimated at four to six months.
"I know this young man very well. I know the personal hardship and strife that he has faced, dealt with and overcome in his young life. And I know of no one who is more prepared, from the perspective of mental and emotional toughness and determination, than Dak Prescott to respond and recover from this challenge that has been put in front of him. He is an inspiration to everyone he touches. He has all of our love and support. And we have no doubt that he will return to the position of leadership and purpose that he brings to our team," Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones wrote in a statement.
Former Cincinnati Bengals and TCU Quarterback Andy Dalton played the rest of the game in Prescott's place.
