The Dallas City Council has given the green light for the Dallas Police Department to hire 300 additional officers.
It's a win for the Dallas Police Department as the city council just raised the police hiring goal this year from 250 to 300. But some council members, pushed for up to 400 new hires - arguing that voters demanded more in last fall’s election.
Interim Police Chief Michael Igo backed the 300-officer plan, saying "it’s realistic... and it won’t pull patrol officers off the streets."
Dallas PD currently has 31,060 officers, but the city’s goal is to hit 4,000. The total cost for hiring the new officers is $10 million.
