The Dallas City Council has approved a lease agreement with UNT-Dallas to develop a new law enforcement training center.
The City will soon develop the Law Enforcement Training Center and Criminal Justice Center on a site spanning 20-acres at UNT-Dallas.
The facility will serve as a state-of-the-art campus for officer development involving classrooms, indoor simulated labs, and training areas for defensive tactics.
"This academy will equip hundreds of officers with the training and tools they need to keep our city safe," Mayor Eric Johnson said in a statement. "This state-of-the-art facility will also strengthen our Police Department's recruitment efforts, helping us hire more officers and provide them with the best training possible to ensure that Dallas is the safest major city in America."
Construction won't begin until next year with funding from a bond program passed last year.
