One of the most outspoken advocates to preserve Dallas City Hall is one of the biggest architectural voices in Dallas.
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Mark Lamster, who is releasing a new book this week, is the architecture critic for the Dallas Morning News.
He says the destruction of City Hall would be disastrous on many levels.
"Leaving City Hall and demolishing City Hall would be a giant fiasco for any number of reasons," Lamster said. "Financially, it would be a disaster, in terms of the City's democracy it would be a disaster."
He says the building was, in part, to recover the City's image following the Kennedy Assassination.
"How ironic and sad would it be to make the City a pariah internationally and nationally once again by destroying an absolutely wonderful masterpiece of American architecture by one of the country's great architects," Lamster said.
The building, designed by renowned architect I. M. Pei, is recognized as a masterpiece of civic architecture.
While those within the City who want to get rid of it point to the excessive cost of maintaining the building, those opposed to the idea have reached an international level.
Lamster's new book, Welcome to Paradox City, will be released on Tuesday.
