A Dallas auto mechanic has been sentenced to more than seven years in federal prison for trafficking drugs out of his business.

Federal prosecutors say Jose Cruz Badillo-Rivera, 50, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with intent to manufacture and distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 87 months in prison.

Court records show that in January 2020, an ongoing drug trafficking investigation in the Eastern District of Texas identified Badillo-Rivera as a large-scale methamphetamine distributor. Investigators said he negotiated drug transactions from his Dallas automotive repair shop.

Prosecutors said the case stemmed from a broader investigation into drug distribution in the region.

This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew T. Johnson.
