The City of Dallas is buying two hotels to use as shelters for homeless people with COVID-19.

The "Hotel Miramar" on Fort Worth Avenue has been a source of complaints about criminal activity for years and neighbor Alice Zaccarello says she's glad the city is using federal COVID relief money to buy the property.

"We have a chance to make a difference with funding that would take years to raise privately" said Zaccarello.

The city is also buying the Candlewood Suites on Preston Road at the George Bush Turnpike.

The hotels will eventually be converted into housing for the homeless after the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
