The City of Dallas has made a significant acquisition by purchasing Adventure Landing, a popular theme park in Collin County, for nearly $13.7 million.
This move aims to transform the 13.5-acre property into a community park while preserving the existing entertainment facilities. Adventure Landing, known for its go-karts, mini-golf, batting cages, laser tag, and arcade, will continue to operate under the same management. The adjacent soccer fields will become public amenities maintained by the Parks and Recreation Department and renamed after the property sellers, Wilber and Lucy Hildebrand.
City officials believe this acquisition will address the need for more green spaces in the area, which has some of the lowest park acreage in Dallas. More than 20,000 residents will now be within a 10-minute walk of a park, significantly enhancing the community's recreational options. The Hildebrands turned down offers from developers who wanted to repurpose the land, opting instead to sell to the city to maintain its legacy of family entertainment.
The agreement includes a seven-year deal, with the possibility of extending it to 13 years. The property operator will pay rent to the city while continuing to run the amusement park, with an option for the city to receive a percentage of the park's income in the future. This acquisition is seen as a win for the community, providing a much-needed recreational space and preserving a beloved local attraction.
