Elevated levels of bacteria have been found at White Rock Lake after more than a million gallons of raw sewage spilled into White Rock Creek last week.

The spill happened after a motor failed at a Plano lift station and sewage flowed for 38 hours before it was stopped. Repair work continues at that station.

The water is being monitored and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality is investigating the spill. The spill did not affect drinking water, which is still safe to use. That creek however feeds into the lake.

As a result, the Dallas Parks and Recreation Department has suspended all water-related activities at the lake until further notice as a precaution.
