After a long search, three finalists have been named for the next city manager of Dallas.
A committee of the Dallas City Council met Monday morning at City Hall to question the remaining finalists for the position. Dallas has been operating with an Interim City Manager since June, when TC Broadnax left Dallas and took a job in Austin.
The three finalists were interviewed in the executive session and the names emerged in council. They include William Johnson, Mario Lara and Kimberly Tolbert.
The names come after a contentious debate between the Dallas City Council and the hiring firm. Some were upset that more candidates were being considered when the firm promised at least 50.
The incoming city manager will need to hire a new police chief and, pending any action from the courts, move forward with an aggressive police staffing requirement that could strain the city's budget.
