Dallas County Elections Administrator Michael Scarpello has announced he is retiring before the end of the year.
Scarpello has been on the job for three years. Statements from the Democratic and Republican parties in Dallas County agree he's done well and they will be sorry to see him go.
Scarpello has implemented changes in equipment, training, and communications between his department and election workers. He also changed how poll workers were paid.
He turns 62 next week and has said he plans to retire to Nebraska. He plans to stay on the job until December 19th.
Members of the Dallas County Election Commission hope to find a replacement who can come on board in time to make a smooth transition.
