Dallas County Judge Clay Lewis Jenkins is encouraging residents to come up with a plan if you have no choice but to travel during the winter weather anticipated this weekend.

Jenkins says if you don't have to drive, you should stay home.

"They should have a plan if they're out driving," Jenkins said. "Have water, a blanket, a flashlight, et cetera, in your car in case you get stuck."

Dallas County is in direct contact with Oncor officials in case there are power outages from icy buildup.

"The tipping point for your power lines is about a half an inch of ice," Jenkins said. "If you get more than that, that can play havoc on tree limbs and as well as the line itself."

The County will work with setting up warming shelters in areas that need them and for areas with heavy homeless populations.
