Hubs and smaller providers in Dallas County are expected to receive 48,000 doses of both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines this week. The vaccine will go to 22 total locations in Dallas County: Six "hubs" designated by the Texas Department of State Health Services will receive 43,150 total doses; 16 smaller providers will receive 4,950 doses.
The Texas Department of State Health Services says 344 providers across the state will receive a total of 520,425 first doses of the vaccine this week and 188,225 second doses. Through Friday, DSHS said 1.75 million Texans had received one dose of the vaccine; 410,000 are fully vaccinated.
Of the hubs in Dallas County, the City of Dallas is operating Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. The city expects to receive 4,875 doses of the Pfizer vaccine this week.
The City of Dallas will partner with Methodist Health System for distribution this week.
"I am proud that we were able to give out 5,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine last week, and we remain dedicated to inoculating as many people as we possibly can — and to scaling up our efforts as we move forward," Mayor Eric Johnson wrote in a statement. "We are also committed to being as agile as possible under the state's guidelines as we try to create the best possible experience for our residents who need this lifesaving vaccine."
Saturday, Johnson says he was "frustrated by the long delays and confusion" at Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. He says people were making unauthorized appointments using a third party system.
Johnson says those unauthorized appointments will be canceled by the city. He says eligible vaccine recipients will be contacted by the city to make an appointment.
Johnson says the City of Dallas is working to transition to a new scheduling system. Right now, appointments can be made through Dallas County Health and Human Services at DallasCountyCovid.org or by calling (469) 749-9900 between 8 a.m and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Staff at the Dallas Public Library can also help people sign up. People can call (214) 670-1400 Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 a.m. through 5:30 p.m.
Starting Tuesday, Dallas Parks and Recreation will have staff available to answer questions and help people sign up by phone at five locations:
•Anita Martinez Recreation Center 214.670.7773
•Beckley-Saner Recreation Center 214.670.7595
•Campbell Green Recreation Center 214.670.6314
•Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center 214.670.8363
•Samuell Grand Recreation Center 214.670.1383
This week, the City of Dallas says it will distribute 1,875 doses of the Pfizer vaccine at the convention center. Methodist Health System will distribute the city's other 3,000 doses Thursday and Friday at the hospital in Oak Cliff.
The city says Methodist will contact people directly to make an appointment.
