Dallas County Sheriff Marian Brown has announced her plans to run for re-election in 2024.
Brown confirmed on Monday that she will run in the Democratic primary on March 5th. One of her opponents will be former Sheriff Lupe Valdez who has already announced her candidacy.
Valdez served as Dallas County Sheriff from 2005 to 2017 when she resigned to pursue an unsuccessful run for Governor.
Brown was appointed to fill out the unexpired term. She was elected in her own right in 2018 and 2020.
Both Valdez and Brown will face a third candidate, political newcomer Rodney Thomas who has a 24-year career in federal law enforcement.
