The Dallas County Sheriff is responding to a demand from the Texas Attorney General.
Attorney General Ken Paxton demanded this week that Dallas County seek a formal agreement with ICE.
Sheriff Marion Brown says the county has until December 1st according to a new state law plus they are already doing what has been required.
"It we are already doing, exceeding essentially, what is required of us in one of the models then there is no need to put any extra effort toward it, other than to sign the formal agreement," Brown said.
Paxton had demanded for the Dallas County Sheriff to enter into an agreement and report back by June 1st which is different than what the state law requires.
"I have no Earthly idea where that confusion came in," said Brown. "I think it is less-than-diligent work for the top law enforcement official's office in the State of Texas to not know the correct date of the deadline for agencies."
The new state law gives counties until December 1st for the formal agreement.
