Dallas County property owners may have to wait a little longer for their 2026 tax bills.
The county says bills won’t be mailed in October as usual because voters will decide Nov. 3 whether to approve a higher tax rate tied to funding for homelessness services.
Dallas County has already adopted a higher rate, but the final amount depends on the election.
Tax Assessor John Ames said bills will still be calculated Oct. 1 using the tentative rates. That means anyone who checks their bill online could see a higher amount before Election Day.
If a tax-rate measure fails, Ames said taxpayers who overpay will automatically receive a refund. The county says its tax rate is increasing for the first time in 16 years, although the final increase will depend on the Nov. 3 vote.
