As early voting begins in North Texas, Dallas County election officials are updating voting machine software to fix a ballot issue affecting some voters in Richardson.
The problem involved several uncontested at-large City Council races in Richardson that were not appearing on ballots for some voters in Dallas County. Officials attributed the issue to a software error and began rolling out a fix Tuesday, starting with early voting centers closest to the Richardson city limits.
The update is expected to reach all vote centers in the county by Wednesday.
Richardson residents in Dallas County who vote before the fix is in place will still be able to cast ballots in the contested races. However, they will not be allowed to return and vote in the uncontested races once the issue is resolved. Election officials noted that since only one candidate is running in each of those races, the outcome will not be impacted.
Officials encouraged voters with questions to contact the Dallas County Elections Department.
