More people are shopping online than ever before, and that means gifts and packages are often delivered when no one is home.
Over 120 million packages were stolen last year, costing consumers nearly 16 billion dollars. According to SafeWise, the worst cities for package theft are NY, Philadelphia, Chicago, DC, and Houston.
Dallas-Fort Worth is number 8 on the list. Frisco Police Chief David Shilson shared some ways you can do to avoid becoming a victim:
"Tracking your shipments, having a neighbor pick up your packages for you," Shilson said. "There's all kinds of secure delivery options available, there's lockers and then just neighbors looking out for each other. That's a great deterrent to crime."
Residents can report package theft or suspicious activity to the police, by calling 911, calling the non-emergency number, or using their local police mobile app.
