All students in the Dallas ISD must start using only clear backpacks beginning this Fall.
A statement from the Dallas school district says mesh backpacks will be acceptable but clear plastic is preferred.
School officials say students will also be permitted to carry a small opaque pouch in their backpacks to hold personal items, such as cellphones, money, and hygiene products.
Administrators call this a proactive measure which is just one of several updates to enhance student and campus safety.
Incidentally, the district will provide compliant backpacks at no charge to the students or their families.
