Since the start of the pandemic, the Dallas ISD has seen a sharp drop in attendance. Now, the district is doing all it can to get those students back.
The Dallas ISD is working to get students back in class after a sharp drop in attendance. The district says overall, attendance typically hovers around 95 percent, but it's dropped to 91 percent. That's roughly 6,000 additional absent students.
Robyn Hrris with Dallas ISD says teachers have been trying their best to engage with students but more needs to be done.
A new initiative, called 'Operation Comeback' is designed to get students back on track. The operation includes post cards, emails, and starting this week, door to door visits.
The new initative allows staff to identify some of the obstacles that may be keeping students from going to class while letting students know they are missed.
