For months now, some commissioners have been blaming judges for a backlog of pending cases. They want judges back into the courtroom, now that covid restrictions have been relaxed.

Commissioner JJ Koch says the judges' inactivity is costing taxpayers.

"They have absolutely broken our justice system because they're not working," he said.

Commissioner John Wiley Price said the county is delaying justice for defendants because they aren't working.

"We're spending money and we're just spinning the gerbil wheel. At the end of the day, it’s about who is doing the work," Price said.

But 11 Dallas County’s misdemeanor and felony court judges, have released a video claiming the pandemic is the main reason for the backlog, and that they have been working. They also claim that the backlog numbers the commissioners are citing are inaccurate.
