Dallas labor lawyer says workers can be fired for refusing to get the Coronavirus vaccination

Now that it looks like a Coronavirus vaccine is just around the corner, many will be anxious to get the shot. Others, though, may want to wait.

But the question comes up -- can your boss make you get it? The shortest answer seems to be -- yes.

Dallas labor lawyer Rogge Dunn tells NBC-5 an employer might have several reasons to make the vaccine mandatory.

One -- simply to have a health workforce. Or two, to reduce chances of a workers comp claim is a worker does come down with the virus. And three -- to achieve a competitive advantage by being able to say it's safe to do business there because all staff have been vaccinated.

On the other hand, Dunn foresees there could be a couple of exceptions.

One -- under the Americans With Disabilities Act, if a worker with a medical condition can be harmed by a vaccination, the employer would have to make accommodation.

And two -- if a vaccination violates a sincerely held religious belief against inoculations, the First Amendment would likely trump an employers preferences.
