Dallas man facing road-rage murder charge has firearm purchase charge sealed after guilty plea

A secret plea deal has been recorded in a federal case that involves a Dallas man who is facing a separate road-rage murder charge.

Reports show 28-year old Tomas Rodriguez Jr. has been charged in both federal and state courts after his arrest for a fatal shooting in June 2021. Police say it was a road-rage incident.

Rodriguez is accused of getting into a car chase with a man identified as Jason Soto who argued with him at an intersection in the 2300 block of South Hampton Road, eventually ramming the man's car then shooting him in the head. That murder case is still pending.

Separately, Rodriguez was charged in federal court with lying on a form to get a firearm. Records show he has pleaded guilty in that case, but without reason the case has been sealed from the public and the terms are not being disclosed.

The murder case against Rodriguez is still pending with no trial date set.
