The Dallas Mavericks take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Christmas Day at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. They'll also unveil their new statue of one of the team's greatest players, Dirk Nowitzki.
"Dirk has done so much for the game and for our city," said Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. "To show our appreciation, we want to ensure his legacy and his jump shot will forever be remembered in Dallas."
The ceremony to unveil the statue takes place at 11:00am, December 25th on the south plaza of AT&T Stadium. Attendance at that outdoor location is limited to invited guests, but the Mavericks will offer a live stream of the event on the team's web site. Fans with tickets to today's game can also arrive starting at 10:00am and watch the ceremony on the jumbotron inside the AAC.
Tipoff for the Mavericks game against the Lakers is at 1:30pm on Sunday.
Nowitzki played for the Mavs for 21 seasons and retired in 2019. He is the team's all-time leader in several categories including points, games played, and blocks. He led the team to the NBA Championship in 2011.
