With the sharp increase in homicides and other violent crimes this year, Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson is calling on activists and community organizers to channel the energy from this summer's street protests into combatting crime in predominately black neighborhoods.
Speaking yesterday, Johnson said "we need those same protests. We need those same demonstrations. If black lives are going to matter -- black lives have to matter."
Johnson also welcomed the Governor's order to have the Texas Department of Public Safety provide support to Dallas police during the current spike in violent crime.
