Masks will no longer be required in Dallas municipal buildings, that's the word last night from Mayor Eric Johnson.
On March 4th, Johnson signed his emergency order mandating masks be worn inside all Dallas city facilities. Then came this week's executive order from Texas Governor Greg Abbott forbidding local governments and officials from mandating face coverings in most cases.
On Wednesday night Johnson rescinded his own order to comply with state law. But he also says he urges all "unvaccinated city of Dallas employees and eligible residents to continue to wear masks while indoors" and, as he puts it "to get vaccinated as soon as possible."
The mayor's new order takes effect Friday evening at 8:00 p.m.
