Several nonprofits gathered in Downtown Dallas Monday to kick off the week that includes North Texas Giving Day.
Wayne White is President and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas.
He says they have raised over $635-millions over the past 17 years and want to surpass the $700-million mark this year.
"We'd have to bring in over $70-million this year," White said. "We're highly confident we can do that. And, beyond just the dollars, we're really interested in the number of givers."
White says last year over 88,000 different donations were received.
Jennifer Scripps is President and CEO of Downtown Dallas Inc.
and says the opportunity to give to local organizations benefits more than just the nonprofits.
"There are 15,000 residents now in Downtown Dallas," Scripps said. "A lot of them want to support the people who make our parks thrive, the YMCA downtown, all of the organizations that help our homeless neighbors."
North Texas Giving Day is Thursday, September 18th.
