Dallas looking for plan to stop tree destruction from Emerald ash beetle

The city of Dallas is looking for ways to slow the spread of a bug that could damage or destroy thousands of trees.

The Emerald ash borer beetle feeds on ash trees, and there are thousands of acres of forest in Dallas County that include those trees.

Scientists say once the invasive Emerald ash borers move into an area, they can wipe out the ash tree population in just a few years, and replacing those trees could take several years and be very expensive.

The Dallas City Council's Environment committee wants a plan in place to deal with the beetle by the end of the year.

The insect has already been detected in Tarrant and Denton Counties.
