Dallas police are investigating an apparent cockfighting operation after officials seized more than 130 chickens from a property.

Dozens of roosters were rescued from “horrific conditions” in Dallas over the weekend, Dallas police said.
Police said someone called 911 and reported a massive cockfighting operation on Garden Grove Drive in southeast Dallas, just south of I-20.
Dallas police contacted the SPCA of Texas for help gathering the birds.
Maura Davies, vice president for marketing and communications for the SPCA of Texas, said many of the chickens were found in small cages or tethered to poles. Dozens were weak and injured from fighting.
More than 130 chickens were taken from the property, including eight hens and two dead roosters. Cockfighting paraphernalia was discovered on the property as well.
Police are investigating, but at this point it doesn’t look like anyone’s been arrested. Forcing birds to fight is a felony in Texas.
