DALLAS — Dallas police recruit Asher King is arrested after officers say they found THC and an unauthorized firearm inside his vehicle during a traffic stop.
The department confirmed the arrest Tuesday and placed King on immediate administrative leave while the case is reviewed.
According to officials, King joined the police academy in June 2025 and had not yet graduated or been granted full police authority. Officers reported discovering the drugs and weapon during a routine stop, leading to charges of possession of a controlled substance and unlawful carrying of a weapon.
The arrest has prompted an internal review of the department’s screening and vetting processes, as King was still early in his training. Additional details about the incident, including what prompted the stop and the quantity of drugs seized, have not yet been released.
The case has been forwarded to prosecutors, and internal affairs is continuing its investigation.
