Dallas Police released body cam footage and gave more information related to another officer-involved shooting, this one at an apartment complex on Lemmon Avenue over the weekend.
Officers responded to a mental health 911 call from someone saying he was afraid he was going to hurt himself.
Officers originally waited outside the door after the caller, James Thomas, showed them the knife he had in his hands.
Dallas police released body cam which can be viewed below. Warning: The footage is graphic, contains adult language, and may be difficult for some to see.
Officers then immediately pushed open the door when they heard there was someone else inside.
"They were of the mindset that they wanted to help Mr. Thomas," said Dallas Deputy Chief William Griffith. "But what occurred is Mr. Thomas escalated the situation by yelling at the other individual inside the apartment that the officers believed she was in immanent threat of being harmed."
Two of the four officers opened fire when Thomas charged at them with the knife.
They tried helping him but Thomas was eventually pronounced dead after being taken away to the hospital.
The woman inside was described as Thomas' live-in girlfriend and had been injured earlier in the day during an unrelated argument.
