DALLAS (1080 KRLD)- Dallas police say their new crime plan is working, with violent crime in the city is trending down.
Major Paul Junger says there have been 21 fewer murders this year than last. And violent crime is down 3.9%. Overall crime is down, with 846 fewer victims.
"Our stats show an 11.3% reduction in robberies in the first two months of the plan when compared to last year. It shows a 23.8% city wide decrease in city wide murders compared to last year this time," Junger says.
DPD has reduced robbery incidents by 147 compared to last year during the same timeframe.
He says working in conjunction with the community has been key in the success of the plan. The plan targets violent crime in the cities "hot spots"by sending extra patrols in those areas.
47% more weapons have been recovered since May 7, 2021.
