The Dallas Police Chief gave additional information Tuesday on the first officer-involved shooting of the year that happened near Overton and Ramona Avenue in South Dallas Saturday.
Officers responded to a 911 call of a person firing gunshots into the ground.
When they got to the scene they ordered 31-year-old Oscar Saldana to drop the weapons and the man then raised the guns.
"At that time, officers discharged their firearms striking him twice," Chief Comeaux said. "Two handguns were recovered at the scene."
The suspect was taken to the hospital in stable condition.
"Saldana remains in custody and will be booked into jail once he is medically cleared and released from the hospital," Chief Comeaux said. "There is no estimated timeline for his release."
Saldana will eventually be charged with Aggravated Assault Family Violence.
