Several Dallas residents blasted the proposed city budget over funding for law enforcement during a Dallas City Council briefing Wednesday.
The City Council at one point had to vote to allow all public speakers once the limit was reached. Council members were holding a discussion over the proposed budget which goes into effect next month.
"Do what's right for the City, make public safety a top priority," one resident said. "Dallas residents demand it."
At one point a man who claimed to be a former drug manufacturer spoke about the importance of police funding.
"In our trap house, we would talk about Dallas police because they were not getting paid, and we would think they would not come in there because they were not getting paid," he said.
Some City Council members have already proposed a number of amendments calling for the budget to include better pay for Dallas police.
One memo obtained by KRLD shows more than 20 cities in the North Texas area pay above the proposed budgeted amount for Dallas police officers.
