There was a dramatic SWAT rescue in southwest Dallas overnight, ending an hours-long standoff that began around midnight when an armed man took a convenience store employee hostage.
Polie say the employee was on duty at an all-night Chevron store on South Westmoreland near I-20.
Reports say an man armed with a knife took the employee hostage and locked the both of them in a back room.
Dallas police were called and summoned the SWAT team when they realized it was a hostage situation.
After waiting for a couple of hours, SWAT fired in a flash-bang device which disoriented the armed man, allowing the SWAT officers to burst in and restrain the suspect and to rescue the hostage who was apparently hurt, either by the suspect or during the rescue.
The unnamed suspect did not appear to be seriously hurt. He was seen being led out of the store in handcuffs. No word yet on his identity or what charges may be filed.
