Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia are touting the latest violent crime statistics showing a significant drop in the first year of the city's Violent Crime Reduction Strategic Plan.

When the Plan was first implemented in May of 2021, violent crime was on an upward trend. In the year since, overall violent crime including murder, robbery and non-family aggravated assault has dropped about 12% even though the number of homicides is up this year.

Violent crime in Dallas had been on the increase in the three years leading up to the Crime Plan implementation.
