Dallas Area Rapid Transit says crews have been working "continuously" to repair tracks damaged by a crash Sunday morning. A Dallas Fire Rescue truck plunged off the elevated highway separating Downtown from Deep Ellum about 6 a.m. Sunday.
Four firefighters were injured; three were released Sunday afternoon. The fourth had more severe injuries and was admitted to ICU.
Dallas Police say the truck was responding to a call, started hydroplaning on Interstate 345, crashed through a wall and onto the ground below.
The truck landed on DART light rail tracks. Because of the damage to power poles and overhead lines, DART had to suspend rail service on all four lines.
Since then, shuttle buses have been running among Cityplace, Deep Ellum, Pearl/Arts District, West End, EBJ/Union Station and Victory Station.
DART had originally hoped to finish repairs by Wednesday night but now says crews have been able to finish that work early. They restored power to rail lines and replaced poles and overhead wiring.
The agency said they also cleared a "significant amount of debris" to allow for trains to make test runs through Downtown Wednesday morning.
Normal service will now resume on all light rail lines Downtown at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Bus bridges will end at 2.
DART does say passengers should still watch for signs and employees who will guide them as service starts, saying delays are still possible this afternoon as trains start running again.
"Our team here at DART extends our most sincere gratitude to our passengers for their patience during this time. While the accident was unexpected and quite severe in its impact, I am proud of the quick work across multiple teams to establish service to help our passengers reach their destinations," DART Chief Operations Officer Bernard Jackson wrote in a statement.
