Nearly 15 million homeowners could have had their personal information compromised after a data breach was found at a North Texas-based mortgage and loan company.

Mr. Cooper Group Inc. which used to be known as Nationstar Mortgage says it was a cyberattack that caused the personal information of nearly 14 million homeowners to be compromised.

Initially, the company thought the breach only affected about 4 million customers, but after looking into things they discovered that even a third-party provider that hosted banking information for mortgage payments was compromised as well.

Things like customer's names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and bank account numbers are involved in the breach.

Mr. Cooper Group says it's offering two years of free credit monitoring to those customers who are affected.
