A deadly crash on Interstate 20 early Wednesday morning closed the freeway for nearly 10 hours, police say.

The incident started at about 12:39 a.m. Wednesday on the eastbound side of Interstate 20 near East Loop 820, Arlington police said.

Police said multiple drivers called 911 to report they "may have struck a person" on the highway. Officers found the body of a man, who was not immediately identified.

Police said they believe the man was a passenger in a car that got into a crash before he was struck by other vehicles.

The initial crash started when a Buick Lucerne hit a construction barricade and crossed over all lanes of traffic, police said. While the Lucerne swerved across the highway, police said the front passenger door opened, the victim fell out of the vehicle, and landed on the freeway.

Police said none of the drivers who struck the man are facing charges.

I-20 remained closed until 10:30 a.m. Wednesday while crews cleaned the highway.
