Some Tarrant County defense attorneys want the Tarrant County medical examiner's office investigated.
The Tarrant County Criminal Defense Lawyers Association asked the Tarrant County commissioners to look into the office after it was discovered to have made several autopsy mistakes in dozens of homicide cases.
Board President Benson Varghese says one example was a 2006 capital murder case in which the testimony of Medical Examiner Nizam Peerwani, sent the defendant to death row.
Deputy Medical Examiner Marc Krouse recently left the Medical Examiner's office after more than 20 homicide cases, where he performed autopsies, were found to have mistakes.
