Democrats in Congress are ramping up pressure on House Speaker Mike Johnson on a side effect from the ongoing government shutdown.

A Congresswoman-elect from Arizona has been waiting for weeks to be sworn in after a special election.

Republicans have a message for Democrats wanting Adelita Grijalva to be sworn in.

"I say open the government up," Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne said. "We've got thousands of pieces of legislation that we have introduced. I would love to see these debated and passed on the House floor."

House Speaker Mike Johnson has said he won't swear Grijalva in until the shutdown is resolved and republicans are standing with him.

"It's ridiculous, if you want this person sworn in, let's go back to business as usual," Congresswoman Van Duyne said.
"Open up the government."

There are reports Democrats might try a lawsuit to force the issue.

Once Grijalva is sworn in, the House would have enough votes to force a vote on releasing the Epstein files.
