President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he would end his reelection campaign, and in the process endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris. In the wake of his decision to bow out of the race, North Texas elected officials and party leaders expressed their feelings.

Dallas County Democratic Party Chair Kardal Coleman, a Joe Biden delegate, said county Democrats may have been surprised by the timing of the announcement.

"Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (D-Dallas) who has been a Biden surrogate, traveling the country with him, she's taken to social media today to let people know exactly where she stands on this issue, so I think it's been a mixed bag," Coleman said. "But the majority of Texans were still supporting President Biden and weren't ready for him to step aside just yet."

On the other side of the aisle, Texas Republican Party Chair Abraham George said he believed Biden was forced out against his will by Democratic Party leaders and fundraisers

"Not the grassroots of the Democratic party, they supported Joe Biden. It's not like they had a choice, but they supported him, 14 million of them came through and said, 'Yeah, we want Joe Biden to be the next nominee,'" George said. Now the elites are saying he's not fit and even though they were the same people who were raising money for him three to four weeks ago, now they're saying he's not fit to run for office."

Other elected officials from Texas at the state and federal levels shared their reactions on social media.
