The Denton City Council has passed a resolution promising to divert city money and personnel away from enforcing Texas laws against abortion.
Denton police are directed to make enforcement of those laws their bottom-most priority. The resolution also recommends the city not use tax money for those investigations.
Before the meeting a crowd of a few hundred demonstrators chanted slogans and carried pro-choice signs. People on both sides spoke during the council's public comment period and at times, they became emotional.
When the vote came, it was 4-to-3 in favor of the resolution.
