A Denton County jury has declined to convict a Houston man of capital murder in the shooting death of a Lewisville convenience store clerk. However, this isn't the end of his legal troubles.
While rejecting a capital murder charge, the jury did find Jamarque Washington guilty of felony murder.
In 2019, Washington took part in the robbery and murder of Ashraf Lakhani. Police reports show he took a total of $217 from the cash register.
Today the jury will decide punishment which still could be life in prison, but with the possibility of parole.
But Washington also faces charges of murder, assaulting a guard, and getting a deadly weapon into the Bexar County jail.
And three weeks ago, Washington was slapped with an additional charge of assaulting a Denton County jailer.
