Prosecutors in Denton County have used a new state law to land murder indictments in a fentanyl-related death.

In October, Denton police found the body of 29-year-old Cory Culver of North Carolina in a motel room. Reports say he died from fentanyl poisoning.

Police say 31-year-old Tabitha Balent of Lake Dallas was in the room and delivered the pills that Culver took. Police also say 37-year-old Raymond Hernandez of Denton was the man arrested for supplying the pills. He also has two other drug charges pending.

A new state law allows prosecutors to file murder charges when there is a death that's attributable to fentanyl.

Both Balent and Hernandez are locked up in the Denton County jail.
