Denton County sees dip in COVID-19 hospitalizations

The Denton County health department has several thousand COVID-19 vaccines on hand …. but it's still waiting on a shipment of booster vaccines.

"We have 6,000 vaccines on hand, and we very much hope to give all of those," says Denton County Public Health Director Matt Richardson. "We hope to be shipped our booster doses for prior vaccine clinics … this week."

If the shipment comes in on time, Richardson says the booster doses can start being administered to eligible groups of people as early as next week.

With cases of the coronavirus surging across North Texas, Richardson says there's some good news in Denton County: The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 is the lowest it's been in nearly a month.

"We're really hopeful and prayerful that that's going to continue," Richardson says. "It's still a really high number, but it's trending in the direction that we would all hope and pray for."

Richardson says while encouraging, the numbers are still dangerous. He says only time will tell how accurate the statistics prove to be.
