Denton County expects to report an influx of COVID-19 deaths today, but officials say there's nothing to worry about.
"It really is a happenstance," Denton County Health Director Matt Richardson says. "It's just by chance on when those are reported. There's no strategy to that reporting; there's no timing orchestration on our part."
He says some deaths are reported weeks, even months, after the fact. Although it can look concerning, Richardson says it's not an indicator that COVID-19 death rates are suddenly on the rise in Denton County. In fact, for the third week in a row, the county is reporting some pretty encouraging statistics. Especially when it comes to hospital capacity.
"In two weeks, we have cut the rolling average of COVID-19 inpatients in half," Richardson says. "That is simply marvelous."
