He admitted writing hundreds of thousands of illegal prescriptions for opioids, now a Denton doctor is facing 20 years behind bars.
Prosecutors say 63-year old Dr. Philip Evans contributed to the national drug problem by writing prescriptions for Hydrocodone, many times without ever seeing the patients.
On Monday he pleaded guilty. The Feds estimate Evans wrote illegal prescriptions for 370,000 doses of Hydrocodone from his family practice in Denton. He had the help of four nurse practitioners who each saw up to 30 patients a day, many who had exhibited drug seeking behavior.
Prosecutors say Evans pre-signed many of the prescriptions.
The federal judge in the case has not set a sentencing date.
