A man died in a Denton apartment fire over the weekend despite the best efforts of neighbors.
Denton Fire Department officials the fire broke out Sunday in a ground floor unit at the Ridgecrest, an apartment complex on Dallas Drive in far south Denton.
Neighbors told NBC 5 the man killed was a Vietnam veteran who lived alone in the unit where the fire began.
In addition to the man who died a second person was taken to the hospital but no condition has been released. The Red Cross is assisting at least 20 other residents who were displaced to the fire, smoke and water damage.
