Denton County announced Wednesday that they will issue a burn ban due to the possible lightning strikes.
Denton officials said after a period of drought, high winds and lightning from possible thunderstorms present the potential threat of wildfires Wednesday. The central and western portions of the county are at very high risk of fire, according to officials.
They say the county’s risk level may diminish to moderate over the next three days as there are several days of rain expected. During the burn ban, outdoor burning is not permitted on private property or in any outdoor environment throughout Denton County.
They also say everyone should take precaution to tighten any loose chains hanging from vehicles and trailers. Chains that make contact with the roadway could spark a fire.
