There's a new piece of public art in DeSoto. City officials gathered over the weekend at Ernie Roberts Park to unveil the sculpture, called "Palabra-Words".
It's an eight foot tall metal sculpture by Pflugerville artist Olaniyi "Akirash" Akindiya featuring the words "respect", "acceptance", and "harmony".
"When we talk about harmony, respect, acceptance, love...it really speaks to what we want the values of our community to be," said DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor.
This is the second work commissioned through DeSoto's public art program. Mayor Proctor hopes the program continues to bring more art to the community.
"We're looking for this to be the first sculpture of many," she said. "It gives us a chance to reflect our vision, our mission...and the things that we value in our community. What we've been striving to do with our Cultural Arts Master Plan really embodies that."
